The Engineering Department for the City of Muskogee is managed by the Director of Engineering, Steve Almon, P.E., The Department oversees all construction related to the city's infrastructure. The Director is also the head of the water and wastewater departments. These departments employ approximately 70 full time employees. The Engineering Department manages all mapping requirements for the city. The city uses "Autocad Map" for mapping software. The city has a digital mapping system with each base map covering a 1/4 section. The maps are online and can be accessed through this web site. Aerial coverage is also available for the entire city. The images were captured on December 10, 2001. The photographs are available in digital format at a scale of 1 foot = 1 pixel.

The Department is in the process of developing a Graphic Information System (GIS). The city is using "Arcview Version 9.0" developed by ESRI as their GIS platform. Information concerning the location of cell towers, fire hydrants and water meters is currently available. Additonal features will be added in the near future.

The department has managed over $100 million dollars in captial improvement projects since 1985. Projects have included new water and wastewater treatment facilities, storm water control projects, street improvements, sanitary sewer line upgrades, water line upgrades, new building facilities, park improvements, aquatic parks, civic center renovations and other municipal projects.
