CITY DEPARTMENTS

MISSION STATEMENT

Personnel Director

Personnel Director
The City of Muskogee has approximately 450 full time employees plus hires additional part time employees on a seasonal basis.

One of the Personnel Departments primary responsibilities is to search for the most qualified individuals to fill vacant positions. Searches are conducted both internally and externally. Applicants can find out what positions are open through the following sources:
  • All position vacancies are posted on the Department’s Bulletin board on the second floor of City Hall (227 West Okmulgee).
  • Vacancies are also listed with Workforce Oklahoma.
  • In some cases, the City places advertisements in the Muskogee Phoenix.
Normally, applications are taken for a specific period of time and are then closed. This period will never be less than one week so it pays to check for vacancies frequently.

Applicants may use any one of several methods to apply:
  1. Application forms are available in the Personnel Department on the second floor of City Hall. The office is open between 8 AM and 5 PM Monday through Friday.
  2. The City also accepts resumes in person, by mail, fax, or sent to the Personnel Department’s email address. Please indicate on the transmittal for resumes what position or type of position you are applying for. Our fax number is (918) 684-6223
All successful applicants must pass both a post-offer drug and alcohol screen and physical. Arrangements will be made for you to take the screening and physical at the City’s expense at the time an offer is made. Finally, successful applicants must provide proof of employment eligibility according to Federal Guidelines and must have a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.

The City keeps all applications and resumes received for one-year. Unsuccessful applicant will be considered for any other openings that become available during this time.

Besides seeking and screening applicants for vacant positions, the Personnel Department also administers the City’s internal promotional processes and the employee payroll and benefit functions. The City has an excellent benefit program which includes:
  1. paid holidays, sick leave, and vacation,
  2. paid employee medical, prescription, and dental coverage, and
  3. participation in excellent retirement programs.
Under the direction of the City Manager and Council, the Personnel Director also negotiates annual collective bargaining agreements with the City’s three unions. The Department insures that these agreements are followed.

The City of Muskogee is an equal opportunity employer and actively seeks diversity in its employment processes. We strictly follow Federal, State, and municipal employment statutes and regulations. Women and minorities are especially encouraged to apply for employment.
